Global Collaboration

Global Schoolhouse is a networking site that connects children around the world and allows them to work collaboratively with other students. This site encourages literacy and development through a variety of fun ways such as a Doors to Diplomacy project, which is an educational challenge by the US Department of State. It is a competition challenging students to create web projects that discuss the importance of internation affairs and diplomacy. The incentive for participating is that each winning team member receives $2000 and coaches receive $500. There are many other programs on this site that encourage students to learn and get involved in a fun a meangful way.

Teach your kids a little more than the basics!!!

Digitally Speaking is one of the most forward thinking sites I have found that is geared towards students. The first comment I came across discusses how students are being sent to the computer lab and are working on how to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Applications. It further discusses how our students should not be trained in "office automation tools" but instead should be exploring, communicating and sharing. I find this statement to be very true. It is time to stop creating robots that are going to be working as secretaries and instead create the inventors, free thinkers, and geniuses in our own classrooms. This site helps redefine what should be taught in the computer lab and keep your students interested.
